The Story Behind The Wadadli Backpack Project

The Wadadli Backpack Project was born out of a deep-rooted connection to Antigua and Barbuda and a heartfelt desire to give back. Kimberley Galloway, the founder, grew up hearing stories of her grandparents and parents’ dedication to education and community in their villages. Inspired by their values and the transformative power of education, she sought to continue their legacy by addressing a simple yet profound need: ensuring children have the basic tools to succeed in school.

In 2020, amid the global challenges brought on by the pandemic, Kimberley recognized how financial hardships were making it even more difficult for families to provide essential school supplies. She decided to take action by starting The Wadadli Backpack Project, aiming to directly impact children’s lives. What began as a modest effort to donate backpacks filled with supplies to Newfield Primary School and Freetown Village Primary School—two schools in villages connected to her family—quickly grew into a larger initiative.

Each backpack represents more than just stationery and books—it symbolizes hope, opportunity, and the belief that every child deserves a chance to succeed. In 2025, Kimberley expanded the project to include a 5-day STEM summer camp, adding a hands-on learning experience that sparks curiosity and innovation among young minds.

Guided by the principles of kindness, empowerment, and community, The Wadadli Backpack Project continues to inspire children to dream big and reminds them that their futures are filled with endless possibilities.

Building Brighter Futures, One Backpack at a Time

In Antigua, where education has the power to shape futures, a simple act of kindness can ignite a lifelong spark. The Wadadli Backpack Project, founded in 2020 by Kimberley Galloway, is a labor of love dedicated to ensuring that every child has the tools they need to dream, learn, and succeed.

Rooted in Community, Powered by Heritage

The Wadadli Backpack Project isn’t just about giving—it’s about honoring history and nurturing hope. Inspired by Kimberley’s deep connection to her heritage, the project focuses on Freetown Village and Newfield Village, where her grandparents and parents once lived. By supporting Freetown Primary School and Newfield Primary School, this initiative brings the spirit of community full circle. Every backpack is more than a gift; it’s a bridge connecting the past and the present, a symbol of love for the villages that shaped generations.
